Everyone has different taste when it comes to furniture and decor, but I've noticed that whenever I ask someone what their style is, most really don't know. So that's when I start asking questions about what styles of furniture they like. Here are a few examples of different types of styles:
Modern style is pretty much clean, straight lines, neutral colors, limited use of textures. The furniture and layout can sometimes be asymmetrically balanced. Also, there's not many accessories used in this style.
Mirrors can make a huge statement in a room, especially floor mirrors! If your home is space challenged, whether it's just one room or several, then placing mirrors in certain positions can create the illusion of a larger space. For example, adding a large floor mirror in the right position makes this bedroom appear larger than what it is. The reflection of light, the window, bed and chandelier all play off of the mirror, giving the illusion of a larger bedroom. Design magic!
Adding decorative pillows to any settee, sofa, chair, bed or outdoor living area can really create layers of color, texture and fun to your space. Depending on how you want your space to feel, pillows can add warmth or pops of color. Also, varying shapes and sizes of pillows adds visual interest. Mix up solids with patternsas to create interest. If you ever feel like you have to toss the pillows on the floor or across the room to make room to sit down or lay down then you have way too many pillows!
Daybeds are very multi-functional. They can be used for lounging, reclining, seating in a common area, and sleeping of course. They can also be used indoors and outdoors. You can also get them with a trundle for more sleeping space. Daybeds can be made from wood or metal and in many different styles. If there is a room in your home that is space challenged for extra guests, a daybed is the perfect solution! You can utilize a daybed in your office to make it an office/guestroom, as daybeds do not take up a lot of space. Also you only need a standard twin size mattress for a daybed. So before you put money into an air-bed think of investing in a daybed instead as you'll get more bang for your buck!
